ABOUT THE FILM
Tasked with procuring lethal drugs for a death row execution, a guilt-ridden Oklahoma corrections officer must face his past or risk losing his hopes for the future. WAITING is a meditation on silence, shame, and the quiet unraveling of a man who can no longer ignore the weight of his choices. It’s a film about systems, but more than that, it’s about people—what we choose to carry, and what it takes to finally put it down.
director's note
Execution workers—those who are charged with administering capital punishment—face an ethical dilemma unlike that of any other job. Just like the secrecy of the work itself, the burden these workers carry remains largely unspoken—even to those closest to them. WAITING is my attempt to illuminate the hidden struggles of death row workers as they fight to resume their lives in the aftermath of an experience so brutal that it often shifts their entire worldview—and their understanding of themselves. It’s a story about what we do when we feel we’re out of options, but more than that, it’s about dreams—the ones that life attempts to take from us and the ones we refuse to give up.

MEET THE FILMMAKERS
Logan Porter is an Atlanta-based screenwriter and director whose work often focuses on institutions of power, morally complicated jobs, and the American South. His short film WAITING, for which he served as director, writer, and producer, was an official selection of the 2026 Atlanta Underground Film Festival and was awarded Best Debut Short for the February 2026 Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival.
His TV pilot screenplay JEKYLL was a 2025 finalist in the Atlanta Film Festival, and his one-act play YEAR ONE premiered at Manhattan Repertory Theatre in 2016.
Greg Kerns is a writer, director and producer whose work spans theater, television, screenwriting and branded film. An alumni of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, he began his career as a playwright at the National Black Theater in Harlem before transitioning into television, where he served as a writer/producer for Disney Channel, MTV and BET.
His broader production experience includes cinematic and branded content for clients such as Verizon, AT&T, Aetna and BMW & Georgia Pacific, complemented by senior creative leadership roles at Grey, Moxie, Rauxa, Mohawk and Georgia-Pacific.
